Folders and decks: how they work

4 min · Last checked: October 2026

Your cards live in decks. Decks live in folders. That is all there is to it. A folder is a binder, a deck is one set of cards in it. Never made one? Start with Start here.

How to read the pictures: the red frame shows what to tap, and its number is the number of the step.

Find your folders and decks

  1. Tap the Folders icon at the bottom of the screen. You see all your folders.
  2. Tap a folder to open it. At the top you see the folders inside it (Folders), below them the decks (Decks).
  3. Tap a deck to open it and study. The three study modes tells you which button to press.
  4. At the top, the line Folders > your folder shows where you are. Tap Folders to go back to the start.

Change a folder

Every folder and deck has three dots (⋮) on its right. Tap them to see what you can do.

  • Edit: change the name, the colour or the icon.
  • Move: put it inside another folder.
  • Archive: hide it without deleting it. Archived folders wait under Archives at the bottom of the Folders screen.
  • Delete: remove it. You can still get it back, see [Get back something you deleted](#get-back-something-you-deleted) below.

Get back something you deleted

Nothing is lost at once. Deleted folders, decks and cards go to Recently Deleted, where you can put them back.

  1. If a deck is missing inside a folder, scroll to the bottom and tap Deck missing? Recover now.
  2. To see everything you deleted, open Settings and scroll to Recently Deleted. There are separate lists for folders, decks and flashcards.

Where do decks come from?

Folders inside folders

With Pro you can put a folder inside another folder, as deep as you like, for example "School", then "Year 2", then "Biology". Without Pro you still have as many folders and decks as you want. See what Pro includes.
