1What does dynamic mean?
Both forward and backward reactions are occuring at the same time
2What happens to the concentrations at dynamic equlibrium?
They remain constant
3What is Le Chatelier principle?
If an external condition is changed in a system at equilibrium , the position of equilibria will shift to oppose the change
4What is the compromise of temperature?
Low temperatures may give a higher yield but a slow rate of reaction so a compromise is used
5Why are industrial high pressured expensive?
High energy costs and High equipment costs
6What effect does a catalyst have on equilibrium?
No effect on yield but increases the rate of the forward and backward reaction EQUALLY BY THE SAME AMOUNT
7Why does catalysts lower costs?
Allows a lower temperature to be used
8What can improve the overall yield of processes?
Recycling unreacted reactants
9What does carbon neutral m
An activity which has no net annual carbon emissions to the atmosphere
10What is the only feature that affects Kc?
Temperature
11Practical Working out Kc
1. Prepare equilibrium mixture using a burette and boiling tube.
2. Leave the equlibrium mixture for a week
3. Rinse volumetric flas with distilled water and using a funnel transfer the ewuilibrium mixture
4. use distilled water to make up solution to 250cm
5. use pipette to transfer 25cm3 of solution and titrate it against sodium hydroxide
6. add NaOH until solution turns pink
12What happens if you add water to equilibrium mixture?
Decreases concentration of all reactants so ewuilibrium shifts to the side with more moles to oppose the conc decrease
13What is a reversible reaction?
A reaction in which the products can react together to form the original reactants
14When is a system at equilibrium?
When the rate of the forward reaction is equal to the rate of the backward reaction
15What is meant by a closed system?
No reactants or products can ente or leave
16What does it mean if the position of equilibrium lies to the right?
The concentration of the products is greater than the concentration of the reactants
17What is Le Chatelier’s Principle?
If a change is made to a closed system, the position of equilibrium wil shift in order to counteract the change
18What three factors alter the position of equilibrium?
Concentration, Pressure and Temperature
