1
What does G3P stand for?
Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate (G3P)
2
What does 3PG stand for?
3-Phosphoglycerate
3
What does RuBP stand for?
Ribulose Biphosphate
4
What does it take to make one usable G3P?
3CO2(3C) and 3RuBP(15C)
5
How many molecules of G3P(18C) does all 6 cycles of the Calvin cycle produce?
6 molecules of G3P (18C)
6
How many Glyceraldhyde-3-phosphate(G3P) does it take to regenerate 3 RuBP, what does this mean for the leftover(s)?
5 Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate(G3P), one is actually used by the plant cell.
7
How many cycles of the Calvin cycle does it take for the net synthesis of one G3P molecule?
3 cycles, fixing 3 molecules of CO2
8
How many cycles of the Calvin cycle does it take to make one glucose molecule?
6 cycles, fixing 6 CO2 molecules
9
Name the 3 phases of the Calvin cycle in order
Carbon fixation phase, Reduction phase, Regeneration
10
Explain the Carbon fixation phase...
1 CO2 molecule attaches itself to a ribulose biphosphate and this is catalyzed by a rubisco(RuBP carboxylase). This 6C structure splits to form 2 3C molecules of 3-phosphoglycerate(3PG) per CO2.
11
Explain the Reduction phase...
Each 3-phosphophoglycerate(3PG) receives another phosphate group from ATP and becomes 3-biphosphoglycerate. A pair of electrons from NADPH reduces each 3-bisphosphoglycerate to glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate(G3P).
12
For net synthesis of _____ G3P molecule the Calvin cycle consumes _____ ATP and _____ NADPH...
1, 9, 6
13
What is the starting material for metabolic pathways that synthesize other organic compounds (Ex:Glucose & Carbohydrates)
Gyceraldehyde-3-phosphate(G3P)
14
How much Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate(G3P) does it take to make one molecule of glucose? How much CO2?
2 Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate, 6CO2
15
In what order do the carbon structures appear in the cycle?
CO2, Intermediate 6C, 3-phosphoglycerate(3PG), 3-Biphosphoglycerate, Glyceraldehyde 3-Phosphate(G3P), Ribulose biphosphate(RuBP).
