1
What are the 4 membrane protein types:
Integral - Polar and Nonpolar Regions
Surface - Anchored in the membrane, keeps them attached to the exterior and interior surface.
Channels and Carrier Molecules - Moving molecules in and out of the membrane, safe passage.
Receptors - Signaling molecules triggering a signal from outside to inside.
Enzymes
2
What are CAMS?
Cell adhesion molecules, important in forming tissue
General structure less specialized
3
What are recognition proteins?
Markers for tissues, cells any endemic molecule contain to prevent removal. Used in immune system.
4
Explain carbs?
Found exclusively in exterior surface facing out of membrane
Outer surface of plasma membrane
Used in cell recognition, recognizes "self"
5
What is the process of cell to cell adhesion simplified to?
Binds cells into tissue/organs
6
What holds cells together?
Excellular matrix is a meshwork of fibrous proteins that holds cells together.
7
What are desmosomes?
Adhering junctions used in tissues subject to stretching.
8
Tight junctions
Seals off passageway between 2 cells in direct contact.
9
Gap junctions
Connects cytoplasm of adjaecent cells to allow for connection.
