1
What does RPIC stand for?
Remote Pilot in Command
2
What are the four forces of flight?
Lift
Weight
Thrust
Drag
3
What is a loaded drone?
One that has additonal weight mounted to it
4
How do we properly load a drone?
By having proper balence by weight dristribution, ex. Dont let the drone tip when taking off
5
What are the three axes rotation?
Roll
PItch
Yaw
6
What part of an airplane causes a "roll"?
Ailerons
7
What part of the airplane controls the "pitch"
Elevator
8
What part of the airplane controls the "Yaw"
Rudder
9
What does "roll" mean on an aircraft?
Think of a barrel roll, left wing up right wing down or vice versa
10
What is the "pitch" on an airplane?
The angle of the plane up or down, ex. nose of the plane facing up or down
11
What is "yaw" on an airplane?
Yaw is the lateral angle, ex. imagine a board game spinning arrow, laying flat but going left to right
12
What is roll on a quad drone?
Similar to an aiprlane, essentialyl leaning left and right relative to the camera FOV
13
What is pitch on a quad drone?
Imagine from the camera fov, moving forward or back by leaning forward or tilting back
14
What is yaw on a quad drone?
Imagine the drone spinning like a table top
15
What is lift?
The force that direclty opposes the weight of an aircraft and holds it in the air
16
What is weight?
The force pulling the aircraft towards the ground
17
What is thrust?
The propulion that pulls the aircraft through the air
18
What is drag?
The resistance holding the aircraft back when moving through the air
19
What produces lift on a rotorcraft?
Motors
20
What produced lift on a fixed wing aircraft?
Wing (airfoil)
21
What does C.P. or C.L. stand for?
Center of lift, or center of pressure
22
When flying, when are lift and weight equal?
In a straight and level flight
23
What is the leading edge of an airfoil? (wing)
The edge of the wing that the air directly hits
24
What is the trailing edge of an airfoil? (wing)
The end opposing end of the wing the wind hits where the airflow meets at the end
25
What is the chord line?
The line that draws out the angle of the leading edge and trailing edge
26
What is the angle of attack?
The angle the flight path line and the chord line make
27
Weight is applied to the center of gravity? T/F?
True
28
During unaccelerated flight, thrust is equal to drag? T/F?
True
29
What are the two types of drag?
Parasite drag
(Lift)Induced drag
30
What is parasite drag?
A byproduct of flying through the air, increases as speed increased

Form drag - Casued by the shape of the object, like a jeep vs porche
Interference drag - The components of the aircraft like the wing generating with the frame
Skin friction drag - Imperfection on the surface of the lift generating surface, rivets, bugs, paint chips etc.
31
What is (Lift) Induced drag?
Fixed wing - Generated as soon as lift is created
Rotorcraft - Created as soon as lateral motion starts, or moving sideways
32
(Lift) Induced drag decreases as speed increases? T/F?
True
33
When does a stall happen?
When the airfoil reaches the critical angle of attack
Flying at too slow of a speed
The airflow is no longer laminar over the top of the wing (sticking to the top of the wing)
34
What does a stall cause?
Fixed wing - The nose dropping
Rotorcraft - Doesnt happen or very few chances
35
What is load factor?
The representation of the acceleration of gravity - Getting sucked into seat from accelerating
36
Load factor increases with bank angle? T/F?
True
37
Stall speeds do not increase with load factor? T/F
False
38
What is stability?
The ability of an aircraft to return to the original flight path after being disturbed
39
What is dynamic stability?
The aircrafts response ofver time when disturbed
40
Which factors affect performance?
Center of gravity location
Altitute
Temperature
Humidity
Weight
41
What is the "envelope"
The aft and forward CG limit of an aircraft
42
To ensure that the unmanned aircraft center of gravity (CG) limits are not exceeded, follow the aircraft loading instructions specified in the
Pilot's Operating Handbook or US Flight Manual.
43
The term "angle of attack" is defined as the angle between the:
Chord line of the wing and relative wind
44
When operating an unmanned airplane, the remote pilot should consider that the load factor on the wings may be increased anytime:
the airplane is subjected to maneuvers other than straight and level flight.
45
The angle of attack at which an airplane wing stalls will
remain the same regardless of gross weight
46
If an unmanned airplane weighs 33 pounds, what approximate weight would the airplane structure be required to support during a 30° banked turn while maintaining altitude?
38lbs
47
A stall occurs when the smooth airflow over the unmanned airplane's wing is disrupted and the lift degenerates rapidly. This is caused when the wing:
exceeds its critical angle of attack.
