1what is succession?
Change in ecological community/ecosystem over time
2Climax community?
Final stage where diverse forest is formed(species composition remains relatively unchanged)
3Primary succession?
1)Starts with pioneer species colonising bare rock/sand
2)Their decomposition results in formation of thin layer of soil(humus).
3)Environment becomes suitable for new species(for at this stage small plants) and they outcompete previous species
4)Repeat 2-3 until it reaches climax community in which all these changes result in increase biodiversity

4Secondary succession?
When succession is disrupted(natural disasters, humans) and the succession restarts but at higher stage as soil is already created
5Conservation of habitats?
To conserve a variety of unique habitats, succession is frequently managed:
By maintaining earlier stages and preventing climax community, a larger variety of habitats are conserved and donc greater range of species can exist
Eg: Coppiced trees
