1
What is Interphase?
Interphase accounts for 90% of the cell cycle
2
What are kinetochores?
Special regions of the centromere
3
What kind of attachment is kinetochores?
Bipolar attachment, attachments from both opposite regions or poles of the cell.
4
What is the purpose of interphase?
Cell growth, producing proteins, organelles, DNA copying, and preparation for cell division.
5
What are the 3 subphases of Interphase?
G1 phase(first gap), S phase(synthesis), G2 phase(second gap)
6
What occurs in the G1 phase of Interphase?
Protein production, organelle copying, growth in size
7
What occurs in the G2 phase of Interphase?
Protein synthesis, preparations for cell division
8
What occurs in S sphase of Interphase?
DNA is replicated which results in sister chromatids.
9
What first must occur before Mitotic phase/Cell division can begin?
Interphase
10
Put the stages of Mitotic phase in order
Prophase, Prometaphase, Metaphase, Anaphase, Telophase
11
Explain the G2 (late interphase) in terms of chromosomes and DNA
Genetic material has been duplicated but is in a chromatin form because it is uncoiled and in a uncondensed form. The centrosomes have also been duplicated and are now forming asters.
12
Explain Prophase
The chromatin have become chromosomes made of sister chromatids. The chromosomes are more tightly coiled with centrosomes in the center. The Nucleoli has dissapeared. The centrosomes move towards the poles of the cell.
13
Explain Prometaphase
The nuclear envelope has begun to disintegrate and the miotic spindle fibers have begun to form kinetochore connections with the chromosomes.
14
Explain Metaphase
The mitotic spindle fibers have formed bipolar bonds and pushed the chromosomes to the center/equator of the cell. The nuclear envelope has dissapeared completely.
15
Explain Anaphase
The chromosomes have been pulled apart by the mitotic spindle fiber and pulled equally to opposite sides of the nucleus equator.
16
Explain Telophase
The cell begins to form cleavage furrow and the mitotic spindle fibers begin to disintegrate and the nuclear envelope is now beginning to reform surrounding the newly created chromatin and nucleolus.
17
Explain Cytokinesis
When a parent cell splits to form 2 identical daughter cells
18
What is Interphase?
The process of a cell duplicating its DNA or genetic material before Mitosis or cell duplication.
19
How many subphases are there in interphase?
3, G1 phase, S phase, G2 phase
