- with multiple speed transmission including reverse
7
Compact type
- tractor with power rating below 32 hp
8
Standard type tractor
- tractors with power rating above 32 hp
9
transmission system
- 2nd major component of a tractor
- provides draft power through the wheels
- rotary power through the PTO
- lifting power through hydraulic system
10
direct coupling
- the load is directly connected to the engine byb some kind of flange device
- transmission efficiency is about 100%
[ N1=N2]
11
belt and pulleys
- two pulleys are used and connected to each other by a belt
- transmission efficiency is less than 100% because of belt slippage
- clutch action may be obtained by a third party
- SR depends on the diameter ratio of the two pulleys
[N1D1=N2D2]
12
Chain and sprockets
- two sprockets are used and connected by a roller chain
- transmission eff. is less than or equal to 100% because of the chain slack
- direction of rotation of the two sprockets are the same
- SR depends between engine and load depends on the number of teeth ratio of the two sprockets
[N1T1=N2T2]
13
Gears
- two meshed gears are used
- transmission efficiency is less than or equal to 100% because of gear slack
- direction of gears are opposite of each other
- center to center distance between the shafts of the gears is dictated by the size of the gears
14
fundamental law of gearing
the angular velocity between the gears of a gearset remains constant throughout the mesh
15
gear train
- any collection of two or more meshing gears
16
compound gear train
- at least one shaft carries more than one gear
17
clutch
- couplings which permit the disengagement of the coupled shafts during rotation
18
clutch functions
- start a smooth delivery of power to the transmission
- interrupt power while the transmission gear ratio is being changed
- interrupt power when the tractor is to be stopped
19
brake
- mechanism used for stopping the vehicle
20
differential
- special arrangement of gears so constructed and located in the transmission system that permist one driving wheel to rotate slower or faster than the other and at the same time propel its share of the load
21
differential lock
device by which a restraining force is applied to the differential gears in case one of the wheels go into an idle spin, so that the differential yoke shafts are rotated as one unit
22
final drive
permits the drive wheels to run at much slower speed and with much higher torque than the earlier part of the drive train
23
front wheel assist
- drive mechanism located in the front axle and can be engaged during conditions that require additional traction
24
Power take off
- shaft located at the tractor's rear commonly used to drive rotary implements
- shaft must rotate clockwise as viewed from the tractor's rear
25
transmisison [gearbox]
-enclosed system of assembled gears that transmits and distributes power from the engine to the different parts of the transmission system
- power from the engine can be modified by changing the speed and direction of rotation of the output shaft through the use of gears
26
Tractor Linkages and Hitches
- Structures made for attaching and for supporting implement
-hydraulically controlled in 4W tractors
- Dimensions, location are standardized
-drawbar and three-point hitches
27
traction
force parallel to the direction of travel developed by the traction device and transferred to the vehicle
28
Dynamic weight /load
-aka true tire load
-load on the driving wheels during pull condition
-equal to the tractor weight (W) When the tractor is operating in four wheel drive
29
Dynamic Traction Ratio
refers to the ratio of drawbar pullover the dynamic weight on the driving wheels
30
Travel Reduction
refers to the reduction in forward speed that occurs when a tractor pulls a drawbar load
- e.g. necessary in order for traction to be efficient
31
Tractive efficiency
refers to the fraction of axle power that is converted to drawbar power by the drive wheels
32
Ballast
material added to the tractor to improve traction and stability '
33
Tractor tires
* lugged fires - to increase traction
* ribbed tires - suitable for steering
*lugs treads - should be oriented to penetrate the soil
34
Electric Motors
- device used to convert electrical energy into mechanical energy
-efficient means of converting energy into mechanical energy compared to gasoline and diesel engines
35
stator
the stationary component found in electric motors and generators
It consists of a laminated core and coils of insulated wire known as the windings
36
rotor
rotating part inside the stator that converts electrical energy into mechanical energy
37
Torque requirement
select a motor whose torque output is always greater than the torque required by the load
38
starting current requirement
determines the size and capacities of the electrical installations needed to operate the motor
39
temperature rating
-motors are built with four insulation classes that can withstand only certain amounts of operating temperature
40
continuous duty rating
motor is operated for more than 60 minutes without rest
41
Intermittent duty rating
operated only for a few minutes at a time with a rest or cooling period between operations
42
open-type
allows easy movement of air through the inside of the motor by providing slots or holes in the end shields or frame where the air can pass through
43
closed- type
does not allow entry of air inside the motor
44
Service Factor
