1what conditions must you verify the gyro machine on before verification/calibration?
machine must be cold (10-15 minutes on)
machine must be clean
2what frequency must you verify the gyro machine?
daily during use
or
if gyro is moved
3how often must you calibrate the gyro machine?
annually
or
if verification fails
4how do you calibrate the gyro machine (measuring internal angle)? (Probably not on test)
1. put a "ram" device in a room temp gyro mold
2. set the ram's indicator side up and do 10 gyrations on it (should be 1.16)
3. flip ram and repeat steps 1 and 2 (should be 1.17)
5what is the diameter of the mold?
150mm in diameter
6what is the compaction pressure setting set to?
600 kPa
7for volumetric pucks, what mode do you set it to?
set gyrations (comes from JMF)
8for tsr pucks, what mode do you set the compactor to?
specimen height = 95 mm
9how long do the gyro molds and top plates need to be pre-heated and at what temp?
30 minutes or more at the temperature listed on the JMF sheet
10If there is extra loose mix, what must be done?
it must be reduced according to AASHTO R47
11once loose mix is split and samples are in gyro pans, what must be done?
put gyro pans with samples in an oven set to the molding temp
place a thermometer in it to get temps
12once loose mix is up to temp, what must be done?
1. pull mold and plate out of the oven
2. place a gyro paper in the bottom of mold
3. scrape out pan and funnel into mold
4. place paper and plate on top and put into gyro machine
13once the mold is in the machine and ready to start, what must be done first?
change to correct settings
14once gyro is compacted and the machine just ended, what are the final steps
1. extrude gyro with piston and remove top paper and plate
2. check for instability and remove once stable
3. flip gyro and set on cooling rack, remove the bottom paper
4. release gyro mold piston and return mold + plate to oven
