Add bromine water to it.
If alkene itll turn brown to colourless

Add small piece of metallic sodium
If alcohol lots of fizzing occurs

Add solid sodium hydrogen carbonate and bubble it through lime water
If carboxylic acid lime water turns cloudy

Warm it up with Fehling's solution
If aldehyde itll turn blue to brick red colour

add NaOH and warm
acidify with nitric acid then add silver nitrate
If halo alkane:
Cl- = white
Br- = cream
I- = yellow
