8Radar Service
- radar monitering
- radar navigational guidance
- radar separation
9Radar Contact Lost
informs pilot that radar data used to determine aircraft positon is no longer able to be recieved or is no longer reliable.
10Radar Service Terminated
informs pilot that they will no longer be provided any of the services that could be recieved while under radar contact
113 Primary Radar ID Methods
- Departure Observed within 1 MI of takeoff at runway end at airports with an operating control tower
- Position Correlation
- Identifying Turns
12Beacon ID Methods
- IDENT
- Observing a code change
- Squawk standby then normal
13STARS
auto acquired aircraft is considered identified when the data block is displayed and visible and one of the following conditions exists....
1- radar or beacon procedures have been used to confirm the target identity or
2- the aircraft is being handed off through automation and no error messages are displayed in the data block
14If ID identification is questionable....
1: re-identify aircraft
2: terminate radar services
15Radar Contact
- after restablishing radar contact when it was lose
- whenever radar identification is established by identifying turns or beacon identification methods
16Radar Service is Automatically Terminated when....
- aircraft cancels IFR escept in class B, C, or TRSA airspace
- an aircraft conducting instrument, visual, or contact approach has landed or has been changed to an advisory frequency
- at towered controlled airports when coverage does not exist within 1/2 mile of the runway (alert arriving aircraft of radar service termination).
17Primary Radar
sends out a signal which is reflected by anything with mass. the reflection is called a echo or a target.
18Primary Radar Components
Transmitter - generates pulse of radio energy
Anetenna - focuses and broadcasts radio energy, collects, and the reflects the return
Reciever - amplifies and converts the reflected energy into video
Radar Display - depicts the position and movement of objects that reflect radio energy
19Secondary Radar Components
Interrogator- ground based transmitter generating radio signals which are sent to the antenna for broadcast. requests all transponders within range to reply
Antenna - focuses and broadcasts radio energy, collects, and the reflects the return
Transponder - located on aircraft and replys to interrogator signal and relays info to the decorder
Decoder - processes transponder replies and sends them to the radar display
Radar Display - depicts an electronic presentation of radar derived information
20Handoff
action to transfer the radar identification
