1
Electromagnetic Induction
Occurs when an emf is induced in a coil due to a changing magnetic flux
2
Magnetic Flux
Formula
Φ = BA
(LOG TABLES)
Φ = BA
(LOG TABLES)
3
The Weber
If the magnetic flux density over an area of 1 m² is 1 tesla then the flux through the area is 1 weber.
4
Faraday's Law of Electromagnetic Induction
states that the size of the induced emf is directly proportional to the rate of change of flux.
5
E = – (dΦ ÷ dt)
E = – N (dΦ ÷ dt)
where N = number of turns
where N = number of turns
6
Lenz's law of Electromagnetic Induction
the direction of the induced emf opposes the change causing it.
7
Electrical Generator
A device that converts mechanical energy to electrical energy
8
Mutual Induction
Occurs in two adjacent coils when the magnetic field in one coil changes and an emf is induced in the other
9
Self Induction
A changing magnetic field in a coil induces an emf in the coil itself
10
Transformer
A device which changes the value of an alternating current
