1
The ideal theoretical cycle for a heat engine is called?
Carnot Cycle
2
What is the highest thermal efficiency possible for a practical heat engine compared to the Carnot Cycle?
About half of the ideal Carnot Cycle efficiency
3
According to the Second Law of Thermodynamics, what is the most efficient type of heat engine?
A reversible heat engine operating between the same temperature limits
4
Who is the Carnot Cycle named after?
The French Engineer, Carnot Sadi
5
Why is the Carnot Cycle called a constant temperature cycle?
Because heat is transferred only during isothermal operations
6
Why is the Carnot Cycle used as a standard for comparing heat engine performance?
Because it has the highest theoretical thermal efficiency
7
What kind of processes make up the Carnot Cycle?
Two isothermal and two adiabatic processes
8
What kind of cycle does the Carnot Cycle form?
A closed cycle
9
What does Fig. 4(a) illustrate?
The Carnot Cycle in a Pressure-Volume (P-V) diagram
10
What does Fig. 4(b) illustrate?
The Carnot Cycle in a Temperature-Entropy (T-S) diagram
11
What is the significance of the Carnot Cycle in thermodynamics?
It establishes the maximum possible efficiency between given temperature limits
12
What does “isothermal” mean?
Constant temperature range or limit
13
What is the role of adiabatic processes in the Carnot Cycle?
They allow the system to change state without heat transfer
