It loses electrons easier and becomes cations and has stronger reactions.

Calcium, Magnesium- Slow with cold water, rapid with steam
Iron- rusts slowly

oxidation is loss, reduction is gain (of electrons)

Unreactive metals such as gold are found in the Earth's crust as uncombined elements

By reducing their ores

Any metal less reactive than carbon can be displaced with it. Displacement isn't used for more reactive metals as it would be too expensive
