1. Reduce any anxiety, Start rapport or icebreaker comment.
2. Be self assure, considerate and unhurried,
3. Standard precautions for all patients
4. During the exam be systematic.

When checking the abdominal must inspect, Auscultate, Percussion, then palpation to not alter bowel sounds

See something with plain eyes

Using a tool to inspect something.

Assess for surface characteristics, for masses, Organs, Pulsations, Muscle rigidity, and chest excursions, tenderness and deformity.

Use the pads of fingers in a circular motion

Apply harder pressure with finger tips or pads over an area to a depth greater than 1/2 inch

Use both hands to feel organ being assessed

Used to assess a partially free-floating object

Determines the density of the underlying tissue and whether it is solid tissue or filled with air or fluid. Can determine the size and shape of the structure.
