1
General Characteristics of Peripheral Nervouse System
2
General chacteristics of the nervous system
3
Basic structure of neuron
4
Classifications of neurons
5
WHat is this?
Node of ranvier
6
What is this?
In longitudinal sections (l.s.), nerves have a pale
wavy appearance with oval Schwann cell nuclei
orientated in the same direction. The axons appear
as pale acidophilic lines while the clear area around
the axon represents the leached-out myelin.
7
WHat is the arrow pointing to?
8
What type of cell nuclei is this?
Schwann cell nuclei
9
What is this?
Node of ranvier
10
What is this outside layer?
epineurium (around several bundles)
11
WHat is being outlined?
cross sections of myelinated axons are outlined || notes:In cross section (x.s.), axons appear as a pink dot
surrounded by a clear halo (myelin sheath). The
myelin, primarily lipid, is dissolved away during
tissue processing, leaving a clear space.
12
What type of cut is this in a peripheral nerve
cross section
13
What type of cut is this in a peripheral nerve
longitudinal
14

Peripheral nerves with thick perineurium
33
. Identify the structure
Meissner’s touch corpuscle
34
Identify the structure –
Pacinian corpuscle
35
What is the arrow pointing to?
spongy bone
36

chondrocyte
37
What is ganglia?
38
What is this?
motor end plate - the special junction that the lower motor neuron forms on skeletal muscle
39
General characteristics of the CNS
40
What is this?
neuron - cell body with nucleus and clumps of cytoplasm
41
What are the arrows pointing to?
Nissl substance
42
What are the red arrows and what are the blue ones?
