1
What is the order of Blood vessel from biggest to smallest?
Heart - artieries - arterioles - capillary beds - venues - veins
2
What is vasoconstriction?
When the lumen diameter is decreased
3
What is vasodilation?
When lumen diameter is increased
4
What are the three walls of blood vessels called? outermost to innermost
tunica intima, tunica media, tunica adventitia
5
What are the three layers of the tunica intima?
endothelium - lines lumen closest to blood contact, subepithelium - basement membrane for endothelium loose CT, internal elastic lamina (artieries only) - elastic CT
6
What is the Tunica media?
smooth muscle arranged in circular patterns, controlled by vasomotor nerves of ANS, function = control blood flow / pressure
7
What is the tunica Adventita?
loose woven collagen / elastic fibers, contains vaso vasorum (vessels own blood supply) provides nutrients top the out vessel wall layers
8
General knowledge about arteries?
well developed tunica media, thin tunica Adventia, divided into 3 groups based on size and function
9
What are the 3 kinds of arteries?
Elastic artieries, muscular arteries, Arterioles
10
What does the elastic arteries do ?
elastic energy stored in artery wall when the heart relaxes the artery springs back pushing the blood forward, minimal response to ANS, range from 2.5 - 1 cm
11
What do the muscular arteries do?
distribute blood to specific organs in body, 1cm - .3nm
12
What do the arteioles do ?
small artery that carry blood to capillaries, lumen from .3mm - 10um
13
Microcirculation really means what?>
Capillary beds
14
What are the two types of vessels capillary beds?
Vascular shunts, True capillaries
15
What are vascular shunts?
connect the atrieole to the venule
16
What is meta-Arterioles?
the final branch off of the terminal arteriole, capillary entrance gated by pericapillary sphincters, when closed blood will bypass capillary
17
what are true capillaries?
exchange vessels that allow for the exchange of gas
18
What are the 3 types of capilaires?
continues capillary, fenestrated, discontinuous
19
What is a continuous capillary?
complete endothelium w/ basil lamina, some leakage but the BBB has no leakage
20
What is a fenestrated capillary?
endothelium containing pores, found where filtration or absorption occurs ie small intestine (absorbing) kidneys(filtration)
21
What are Discontinous capillaries? What is another name for these?
name = sinussoidal, highly modified leaky capillaries, found in liver, lymph nodes, bone marrow, large irregular lumems,
22
Correctly label the three capillaries
