09 - Force, Mass and Momentum

Anything that
causes the velocity of an
object to change

A measure of how difficult it is to accelerate a body. (*?)

A force of 1 Newton gives a mass of 1 kg an acceleration of 1 m s⁻²

The weight of an object is the force of the Earth’s gravity acting on it.

A body will remain at rest or travelling
with constant velocity unless an unbalanced force acts on it.

When an unbalanced force acts on a body the rate of change of momentum is directly proportional to the force and takes place in the direction of the force.

For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction

states that if a body A exerts a force on a body B, then body B
exerts an equal but opposite force on body A, i.e. action and reaction are equal and opposite.

In any interaction between two or more bodies the total momentum before is equal to the total momentum after provided no external forces act on the system of bodies.
