Main Engine

Question 1

Cylinder Block

Accepted Answer

Houses the cylinders where combustion occurs and supports other engine components.

Question 2

Cylinder Head

Accepted Answer

Seals the top of the cylinder, contains valves and fuel injectors, and withstands combustion pressure.

Question 3

Piston

Accepted Answer

Moves up and down inside the cylinder, converting combustion energy into mechanical motion.

Question 4

Piston Rings

Accepted Answer

Seals the gap between the piston and cylinder wall to prevent gas leakage and control oil consumption.

Question 5

Connecting Rod

Accepted Answer

Transfers motion from the piston to the crankshaft, converting linear motion into rotational motion

Question 6

Crankshaft

Accepted Answer

Converts the reciprocating motion of the pistons into rotary motion to drive the propeller.

Question 7

Camshaft

Accepted Answer

Controls the timing of the opening and closing of inlet and exhaust valves.

Question 8

Fuel Injector

Accepted Answer

Sprays fuel into the combustion chamber at high pressure to ensure proper combustion.

Question 9

Fuel Pump

Accepted Answer

Delivers fuel at high pressure to the injector for combustion.

Question 10

Turbocharger

Accepted Answer

Uses exhaust gases to compress air and increase the engine’s efficiency and power output.

Question 11

Scavange Air Receiver

Accepted Answer

Stores compressed air before supplying it to cylinders for better combustion.

Question 12

Exhaust Manifold

Accepted Answer

Collects exhaust gases from cylinders and directs them to the turbocharger or exhaust system.
