Question 1

Population attributes

Accepted Answer

1. Size (N) 2. Density (N per unit area) 3. Dispersion 4. Demography 5. Genetic characteristics

Question 2

Random Dispersion

Accepted Answer

Least common, position of each individual is independent of other individuals

Question 3

Clumped dispersion

Accepted Answer

Individuals gather in patches

Question 4

Uniform dispersion

Accepted Answer

Individuals are evenly spaced, influenced by social things like territory

Question 5

Extinction vortex

Accepted Answer

Factors that affect small populations like inbreeding and genetic drift can drive a population to extinction

Question 6

Genetic diversity

Accepted Answer

Genetic variation within populations between populations

Question 7

Type I survivorship

Accepted Answer

High survivorship for juveniles, lower for older

Question 8

Type II survivorship

Accepted Answer

Uniform survivorship for each age group

Question 9

Type III survivorship

Accepted Answer

Low survivorship for juveniles, higher for older

Question 10

Fitness trade-offs

Accepted Answer

Individuals have a restricted amount of time and energy, cannot maximize all physiological aspects

Question 11

Population growth rate

Accepted Answer

Birth rate - death rate + immigration rate - emigration rate

Question 12

Exponential growth rate

Accepted Answer

unrestricted growth of a population of organisms, occurring when resources in its habitat are unlimited
