What are the components of the lymphatic system?
lymph = fluid from plasma, vessels, tissue - lymph node, organ system - spleen, thymus
2
What are the 3 functions of the lymphatic system?
maintain blood volume, fat transport - lacteals, defense/protection
3
What are the 4 contributors to move lymph around the body
skeletal muscle pump, respiratory pump, valves, arterial flow
4
we start at lymphatic capillaries and moving through the lymph system where would be our next stop?
lymphatic collections vessel where multiple capillaries come together
5
Where does lymph travel to after we leave the collecting vessels?
lymphatic trunks
6
What are the names of them lymphatic trunks? (9)
R&L Lumbar, R&L Bronchomediastinal, R&L jugular, R&L subclavian, intestinal trunk
7
What region does the R&L Lumbar trunk drain?
lower extremities
8
What region does the R&L Bronchomediastinal trunk drain ?
Lungs & mediastinum
9
What regions do the R&L subclavian trunk drain?
Upper extremities
10
What region does the R&L jugular drain?
Head and face
11
What region does the intestinal trunk drain ?
instenines
12
What are the 2 lymphatic ducts?
Thoracic duct & right lymphatic duct
13
What 3 trunks drain into the R lymphatic duct?
R jugular, R subclavian, R brachomediastinal>> all drain to right subclavian vein
14
What is the pattern of drainage within the thoracic duct?
R&L lumbar & intestinal trunk —> cysteran chyli —-> L jugular & L subclavian & L Bronchomediastinal —-> L subclavian vein
15
What is lymphedema ?
Blockage of lymph flow typically by tumor, parasite, or surgical removal
16
What are 2 types of lymphocytes and functions?
B -cells = regulate immune response / directly attacks invaders, T - cells = produces plasma that produces antibodies
17
What are macrophages?
Cells that phatotisizes foreign Debri, also helps activate T cells
18
What are the 3 lymphatic tissues?
Composed of reticular CT, diffuse lymphatic tissue, lymphatic nodules
19
What is the composed reticular CT composed of ?
composed of macrophages and lymphocytes within fibers, major tissue in all lymph organs
20
What is diffuse lymphatic tissue?
Diffuse network of reticular fibers found in most body oprgans
21
What is the lymphatic nodule
Tightly packed reticular fiber, can also be called Peyers patches when found in intestines
22
What are the lymphoid organs
Lymoh node, spleen, thymus, tonsil
23
What are the 2 functions of the lymph node?
Phagocytes remove debris/activate immune system, Lymphocytes monitor for antigens
24
Name 1-9?
25
What is the function of the spleen?
Site of lymphocyte proliferation, stores breakdown from RBC (Fe), has white pulp (stains purple) and red pulp
26
Where is white pulp found and what is inside?
Found in spleen, contains lymphocytes and reticular fibers, Stains purple
27
What is the function of red pulp and where is it found>
RBC’s and macrophages break down blood born pathogens and store platelets
